PROJECT SPOTLIGHT | LATEST RETAIL SPACE - OUTSET

Blending Grit and Comfort: Our Interior Design Collaboration with Outset

At the intersection of cycling culture and specialty coffee lies Outset - a brand that’s as much about community as it is about craftsmanship. When they approached us to design their new space, the brief was clear: create an environment that felt urban yet welcoming, functional yet full of personality. The result? A striking, tactile interior that seamlessly merges an industrial aesthetic with moments of comfort, conversation, and connection.

A Space Built for Movement and Meaning

Polished concrete floors and textured walls form the backbone of the design, while a dark stone palette sets a grounded, moody tone. This industrial foundation is balanced by carefully considered lighting, warm accents, and spatial flow that invites guests to linger.

At the front of the space, a bespoke coffee bar acts as a welcoming hub - a place to pause, caffeinate, and engage. Designed with clean lines and tactile materials, it mirrors the rugged refinement that defines the brand. The coffee area isn't just an amenity; it's an anchor for the community, setting the tone for the entire Outset experience.

Function Meets Form: The Bike Workshop

Move deeper into the space, and the design shifts subtly to accommodate a second identity: a fully integrated bike workshop. Far from being tucked away or hidden, this area is visually and physically connected to the café, fostering a sense of openness and shared purpose. It's a place where customers can repair, rebuild, or simply watch the action unfold.

Design Details That Tell a Story

One of our favourite features of the space is the use of blackboard-painted walls in the workshop which will soon be adorned in white chalk decals. This flexible surface serves multiple roles: a canvas for temporary branding, a space for rotating illustrations, and a creative outlet for both staff and customers.

Throughout the store, clever decal placements echo key elements of Outset’s visual identity without disrupting the calm, cohesive aesthetic we've worked hard to establish.

A Place to Stay, Repair, and Refuel

More than just a café or a workshop, the finished space is a multi-functional environment that reflects the dual passions at the heart of Outset. It encourages customers to do more than just drop in - it invites them to stay, connect, and become part of a growing community. Whether they’re there to fine-tune their bike, sip a perfectly pulled espresso, or simply soak up the atmosphere, the space supports it all.

This project exemplifies what we love most about interior design: the opportunity to craft environments that are not only beautiful and functional but deeply aligned with the identity and values of the brand. With Outset, we found a partner eager to push creative boundaries, and the result is a space that’s as dynamic and driven as the community it serves.
