A Modern Coastal Retreat on Waiheke Island: Three Years in the Making
After three years of careful planning, craftsmanship, and collaboration, we’re proud to reveal our latest new build - a stunning, contemporary retreat nestled on the idyllic Waiheke Island. Framed by native flora and the ever-changing coastal light, this home is more than a structure; it's a warm, living reflection of its unique landscape and the lifestyle it inspires.
Design Vision: Seamless Integration with Nature
From the outset, our vision was to create a space that felt deeply grounded in the environment - both visually and materially. An array of natural material wraps the home inside and out, providing a tactile warmth and consistency that fosters a strong sense of place.
Large windows frame panoramic views of the lush surroundings, inviting the outdoors in and flooding each room with natural light. The home is designed to be both a sanctuary and a space for connection, with open-plan living zones and thoughtful transitions between private and shared spaces.
Interior Aesthetic: Earthy Tones and Timeless Materials
The interior palette is a celebration of natural textures and tones - an elegant combination of wood floors, warm cedar linings, and deep walnut coloured cabinetry. As seen in the image, the kitchen and dining spaces are crafted with intention and calm. Richly toned timber is balanced by soft neutral upholstery and minimalist black fixtures, creating a modern coastal aesthetic that feels both elevated and inviting.
Built-in seating along the dining nook adds a cosy and functional detail, encouraging long, shared meals with family and friends. Above the kitchen island, handwoven pendant lights offer a nod to traditional craftsmanship while enhancing the organic materiality of the space.
Craftsmanship and Commitment
This project was the result of meticulous collaboration between architects, builders, and artisans over the span of three years. Each element - from the hand-finished joinery to the precise timber cladding - speaks to a commitment to quality and detail. The extended timeline allowed for a truly bespoke approach at every stage, with care given to both the macro design vision and the micro details that make the home sing.
Our Final Reflections
Waiheke Island is a place of natural beauty, rhythm, and rest - and this home mirrors that energy. It’s a place to pause, gather, and live slowly. We’re incredibly proud of what this build represents: a balance between luxury and simplicity, form and function, permanence and flow.
